Gas Exchange

The blood loses some oxygen and takes on carbon dioxide during its passage through different body organs . It regains its normal composition of respiratory gases during its contact with the wall of the alveoli. the thin wall of the alveoli permits easily gas exchange through a phenomenon called diffusion.
How does this exchange occur?

  1. Diffusion is the spontaneous movement of gases between the gas in the alveoli and the blood in the capillaries in the lungs. Passive diffusion is the process that drives oxygen into the capillary blood and carbon dioxide out of pulmonary capillary blood.
